50 years ago (1958)
Artie Abrahamson Jr. took possession of the Hutchings Trophy last night after winning the Snohomish County amateur golf tournament. Gordon Hutchings, who put up the trophy, and Tom Costello, who donated other prizes, helped Artie carry the award. In other local golf news, Bing Crosby played at Everett Golf and Country Club on Saturday.
Walt Crawford, Everett Herald maintenance man, dumped a good many cans of water from the office on Rucker Avenue. A torrential, hourlong thunderstorm pelted the city on Saturday, flooding many basements. Gushers were coming out of a drain on Pacific Avenue near Jefferson School.
25 years ago (1983)
On June 3, 1939, Alvina Kroening was unable to graduate with her high school class in Chippewa Falls, Wis., because of a family crisis. Tomorrow, 44 years later to the day, Alvina (Kroening) Ruben would receive her degree from Everett Community College.
Bill Anderson of Everett and Lori Osterman of Stanwood were named outstanding students at the Everett Community College awards banquet on May 25. Distinguished service awards went to John Meske Jr. and Tim Todd, both of Everett. Athlete of the year awards went to Nancy Lang of Marysville and Brian Ogle of Lynnwood.
