50 years ago (1964)
Everett lost two prominent citizens during the night: Harry L. Metzger and George J. Schuchart. Metzger, a resident for 70 years, was in the insurance business. Schuchart was a contractor and partner with his brother-in-law, Howard S. Wright. He had been a resident here since 1900.
Finishing touches to the Christmas decorations in Lowell were made this morning as members of the Lowell Civic Group erected a 15-foot candy cane in the business district. Cochairmen of the effort were Mackie Goode and Everett Lancaster.
25 years ago (1989)
The lines started forming shortly before dawn yesterday morning on the sidewalk outside Christmas House at the corner of Hewitt and Wetmore. For 10 years Christmas House had distributed donated gifts to families in need. Trina and Lori Fields were among those who donated items.
Pete McDougall, Bill Douglass, Jan Leach, Ed Petersen and the Rev. Don Brekhus showed off the new transitional house for homeless people in Stanwood. The idea was to give people a chance to get on their feet in a city where renting a home could be difficult and expensive.
