50 years ago (1958)
There was a lot of activity down on the Everett waterfront these days as fishermen got ready for the coming season. Purse-seiners were betting boats and gear for Alaskan and Puget Sound waters.
Frank Zuanich and Bill Gans were working on the drag-seiner Voyaguer. The trollers and gillnetters would be guests of the Everett Elks at the annual Fishermen’s Night observance.
Champagne Froth for Mother’s Day was the sparkling coiffure featured at Fashion Beauty Salon, south of the bus depot at 3114 Colby Ave. On the staff of stylists were Walter Warner, Lawanda Conrad, Choe McCandlis, Rita Semays, Della Wallace, Thelma Tuengle and Velma Johns.
25 years ago (1983)
Former employees and volunteers of Snohomish County Community Action Council staged an “appreciation roast” recently for the agency’s first executive director, Harry Carle, who served from 1966 to 1977. Approximately 30 persons were on hand for the occasion at the London Cafe.
John Unckles and Pat Hogan were looking for posters of Elvis Presley, Tab Hunter or James Dean, hula hoops, 45-rpm records and other 1950s memorabilia. The Lake Stevens Community education Association was sponsoring a production of the musical “Grease.”
