50 years ago (1958)
Ron Thornberry of Everett congratulated Gary Clarke of Edmonds after the latter won the javelin event of the Snohomish County High School track and field tournament. Thornberry finished second. Both would participate in the Northwest District tourney next Saturday.
Carol Hansen, seventh-grader at Monroe Junior High school, would represent Monroe in the Evergreen State Fair spelling contest next fall after winning a spelldown yesterday. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hansen of Monroe.
25 years ago (1983)
Five of the six surviving children of an Arlington area pioneer family had all celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries. Their parents were the late Dewitt and Edith Schwab, who came to the area in the early 1900s. They raised eight children, two of whom had died, Hazel (Silva) and Nelson. The five couples who had celebrated golden anniversaries were Ronald and Esther Baugess, Paul and Lottie Jackson, Leslie and Doris Schwab, Stanley and Peggie Novak, and Charlie and Marguerite Schwab. Bernard and Mae Schwab would celebrate their 50th anniversary in four years.
Kristin Amtmann, Coupeville High School sophomore, was crowned queen of Coupeville’s first Mayfaire Festival last weekend.
