50 years ago (1958)
Robinson Marina invited the public to their grand opening celebration on the waterfront at 19th Street and Norton Avenue. They were offering free boat rides, doughnuts and coffee. Managers were Cap Englestad, Jerry Tollefson and Ken Marvin. Frank Mathis, Raleigh Black, Dick Robinson and Cliff Reick were salesman, and Galen Lawson was the head mechanic.
The second phase of the downtown street modernization project was launched this week by a group of property owners. Included in the area was Hewitt Avenue between Wetmore and Virginia avenues and between Grand and Hoyt avenues, and Rucker Avenue between Everett and Pacific avenues.
25 years ago (1983)
Maryalice Salget was named the Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Education Association. She was the supervisor of art for the Everett School District. Salget saw art as a basic subject and felt that everyone should have an awareness and appreciation of visual surroundings and how they could be improved.
A fledgling group was formed to bring chamber music to the Everett area. The Port Gardner Bay Chamber Music Society, an informal group of local musicians, recently held their second concert in Trinity Episcopal Church. The group was formed by Nancy Cobbs, Gene Nastri and Jill Tschetter.
