50 years ago (1958)
Where else but Everett? Storms and snows were raging over major portions of the country while Everett and the Pacific Northwest were experiencing the mildest of winters. Flowers had been blooming all “winter.” It was even necessary to get out and mow the lawn. Archie Loshbaugh of the post office was making the grass fly along Colby Avenue in front of the building.
Aini Messmer was installed as president of Bethlehem Lutheran Women’s Missionary Federation of Marysville last week. Also installed were Joyce Taubeneck, vice president; Pauline McIntosh, secretary; and Eileen Pryor, treasurer.
25 years ago (1983)
A Roman Catholic parents’ group was working to open a Catholic high school in Snohomish County. One building they had considered was the old Lynnwood High School, but they wanted to be farther north. The group, The Northsound Association, was headed by Stephen Good Sr., president; Cary Halpin, vice president; Colleen Wartelle, secretary; and Richard Henderson, treasurer.
Norm Riggin was busy working up interest for a reunion next summer of crew members of the Navy’s USS Elmore APA 42, which spent most of the summer of 1945 in Everett undergoing general repairs before returning to the South Pacific.
