50 years ago (1958)
Green River Lumber Co., near Paine Field, advertised in The Herald that it was now wrecking the Clark Building at Hewitt and Wetmore. All material was for sale, including bricks, lumber, windows, doors and plumbing supplies.
Ung Sun Lee, exchange pre-medical student attending Everett Junior College, spoke to the Silver Lake PTA on current conditions in divided Korea. He also recounted his exodus from Communist North Korea to South Korea with the United Nations forces under Gen. Douglas MacArthur during the Korean War.
25 years ago (1983)
More than $17,500 was to be distributed to hungry families in the county this year as the result of a new payroll deduction program at General Telephone Co. of the Northwest. Linda Gainer, General Tel’s community affairs manager, said that employee response had really been enthusiastic. GTNW President Claude Munsell called the program “super.”
Recently named to the board of directors of the Snohomish County Center for the Handicapped were Jeanne Baker of Everett Community College, George Bader of Boeing, James Maner of Snohomish County PUD and Frank Webb of General Telephone. The center was the home of Marvel Industries.
