50 years ago (1958)
Three local residents were winners in a Hamilton Watch Co. contest. They were L.M. Anderson of Pinehurst, Clara Dorman of 3814 Friday Ave., and Art Carlson of Route 3, Alderwood Manor. The presentations would be made through Burnett Bros. Jewelers, 1620 Hewitt Ave.
Florence Mae Guild of First Baptist Church was to meet tomorrow in the home of Leona Ingham, 4205 Hoyt Ave. Assisting would be Pearl Dobson, Marie VanderStaay and Ruah Pitcher. Lucille Weber would give devotions, and a social hour with refreshments would follow the business meeting.
25 years ago (1983)
Walt’s Radiator &Muffler was having a grand opening at their new location, 2121 Pacific Ave. A grand prize drawing included two video machines with five free movies from Judd &Black. There were also free hot dogs, soft drinks and balloons. Coupons in The Herald offered deals on dual exhausts, radiator and muffler work and shock absorbers.
Nasty weather was causing problems all over the county. Flood warnings were issued for the Snohomish and Snoqualmie rivers. Low-lying areas on Ebey Island and near Monroe were under water. Power was knocked out in Silvana. A jumble of downed trees and brush in Wisconsin Creek closed the Mountain Loop Highway.
