50 years ago (1958)
Paine Field soon could become a Bomarc missile-launching base. Bomarc missiles were intended as a defense against Soviet bombers. Plans for such a base had been under way for some time but were considered top secret by the military. Announcements had been made for construction of a pilotless-interceptor launching base.
Installing plumbing donated by various Everett firms, volunteers from Plumbers Union Local No. 265 gave their time and energies this week to the cause of the Handicapped Children’s Center, 2922 Rockefeller Ave. Working were Claude Winegardner, D.G. Miller, Elmer Conklin, Leo Engler, Joe Baker and Ben Lower.
25 years ago (1983)
It was not too early to be thinking about springtime activities such as the Everett YMCA Women’s Auxiliary annual book fair in April. The organization was collecting books for the event, reported Dorothy Miller of the auxiliary.
