50 years ago (1958)

Janice Gabrio, graduate of Everett High School, was elected president of the sophomore class of Marylhurst College in Oregon. An active student at Marylhurst during her two years at the college, she worked on play productions, was a class officer and sang in the College Chorus.

25 years ago (1983)

Sport-About had opened at 6128 Evergreen Way. Chuck Huffman of Everett, who had operated the sports equipment business out of his home for two years, was the owner. Featured products included team, group and club sport supplies such as uniforms, T-shirts and jackets.

The football fortunes of the University of Washington took a substantial leap when Snohomish High School fullback-linebacker Rick Fenney announced he would accept an athletic scholarship from the school. Meanwhile, Chris Chandler, the do-everything Everett High School quarterback, had narrowed the list of colleges he might attend to the University of Washington and Stanford University.
