50 years ago (1958)
Marv Harshman, coach for 13 years at Pacific Lutheran College, was named head basketball coach at Washington State College. He was a graduate of Lake Stevens High School.
25 years ago (1983)
Eugene Carson, who had begun his education career 29 years earlier as an Edmonds schoolteacher, said he would retire at the end of June after a decade as superintendent of the Snohomish School District. In Edmonds he had moved from teacher to principal to central administration, where he served with superintendent Howard Coble.
The Lake Stevens School Board agreed to destroy the old Sunnyside School building. It would be burned as a training exercise for the Lake Stevens Fire Department. A million-dollar bus barn for Lake Stevens and Granite Falls would be built on the site.
