50 years ago (1964)
Steve Bennett was elected student body president for next year’s class at Everett High School. Elected to serve with him were Jim Dawson, vice president; Buzz Dyre, president of the Representative Assembly; Judy Clough, recording secretary; Libby Bratt, corresponding secretary; and Byron Bitar, treasurer.
Watercolors, sculpture, drawings, stitchery and other art from students at North Junior High School would go on display at Black &King Galleries today. Among the 30 students were Linda Royal, Jayme Dixon and Dan Alexander. They were students of Richard Shideler and Margaret Hillyard.
25 years ago (1989)
The Golfing Gorilla, sort of a Rodney Dangerfield in fur, entertained golfers at the Everett Golf and country Club’s Young Life Tournament. His biggest laugh came when he nearly gave the prone Mel Walters a concussion by driving a golf ball out of Walters’ mouth while wearing somebody else’s glasses.
Marine Cpl Scott R. Coon, a 1985 graduate of Monroe High School, had been promoted to his present rank while serving with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station in Camp Pendleton, Calif.
