50 years ago (1964)
Two men removed a washing machine, books and chairs from an unoccupied house at 2017 Summit Ave. Owner George Bond said he had not authorized anyone to take the items. The car driven by the two men was reported to be a 1951 red-and-white Cadillac convertible.
25 years ago (1989)
Sharon Drivstuen of Monroe shot an 80 to win low gross honors in the 12th annual Johnson Cancer fund golf tournament at the Everett Golf &Country Club. Hers was the lowest in the 156- woman field and earned her the Dr. Bert Bertoldi Trophy. Money raised benefited the patient assistance fund at Providence Hospital in Everett.
At Arlington, Doreen VanLaar hit a grand-slam in the first inning and added a two-run homer in the second to lead Arlington to a Northwest AA softball victory over Anacortes. VanLaar also went the distance on the mound.
