50 years ago (1957)
Elizabeth Muncaster, whose third-grade classroom at Martha Lake School won a membership contest sponsored by the PTA, was crowned the winner by principal Jim McHeffey. Mrs. Muncaster’s Room 18 won the contest when parents of 47 percent of her pupils joined the PTA. She also received a “treasure chest” of household items.
South Everett Youth and Community Center met tonight in the center in Beverly Park. Bob Twitchell, president of the center, presided during the business meeting. An invitation was extended to residents of the area to see what had been accomplished.
25 years ago (1982)
Mildred “Midge” Stephens, an elementary teacher, and Bonnie Carrick, an elementary librarian, who both retired from their Snohomish School District positions this fall, were honored recently at a reception given by their fellow staff members of Riverview Elementary School. The reception was at the home of Paul and Romaine Schaus.
Teachers and students at Edmonds High School found something unusual on the roof — a massive hand, larger than a car, holding a pen. Principal Ron Fraser said it was creative and suspected it was a prank by recent graduates such as the Wendy’s hamburger display last year.
