50 years ago (1957)
Members of the Everett School Board accepted the resignation of Charles McGlade as superintendent effective June 30, 1958. McGlade, an educator for 36 years and head of Everett schools for 10, said he was ready to be relieved of the heavy demands of front-line duty. There was no announcement about a successor.
Lulu Shakespeare, 3131 Rockefeller Avenue, was to entertain members of Social and Study Club tomorrow at a luncheon. She would be assisted by Charlotte McNeely. Speaking on Thanksgiving traditions would be Lucy Owens. Roll call would be answered with a favorite quotation.
25 years ago (1982)
Olson’s was celebrating a grand opening of their new Snohomish store at 13th Street and Avenue D. A free pound of bacon was given to the first 100 customers and a loaf of fresh baked bread to the next 500 customers. There were three grand prizes of $1,000 worth of groceries.
At Stanwood Primary School, while 150 first-graders were at recess, five water pipes crashed to the floor and burst, according to Principal Eldon Allen. Water gushed for about 20 minutes before the Stanwood Water Company shut them off. The kids had the next day off.
