50 years ago (1957)
Muriel Norton Smith, 2306 Colby Ave., was one of a select group of women in America. She was honored by having a biographical sketch of her life included in the first publication of “Who’s Who of American Women.” A graduate of Rutgers University, she had held many positions before working at the State Department of Public Assistance in Everett.
Once again there were decorations all over town. Some worth mention were Police Sgt. John Olson’s annual display on Clinton Place, outdoor decorations at the home of Leon Hawkinson on the Beverly Park-Casino Road, Arthur Lervick’s home on Alverson Blvd., and lights on the huge tree south of the Great Northern depot.
25 years ago (1982)
Celebrating her 98th birthday was Louise Marie Wells, an Everett resident since 1898, who came here when Everett was six years old and Hewitt Avenue was paved with planks. She was the last of the original Rucker Hill pioneer residents.
Kaye Bailey and Doug Yearout tended an injured screech owl at the Wildlife Care Clinic of Everett. They were fighting the odds of declining habitat and rising costs to care for wildlife.
