50 years ago (1957)
Everett city commissioners approved the appointment of Mildred Simpson to a six-year term on the Everett Parks Board. She succeeded Sam Priebe, a veteran member of the board. Other new appointments were Larry Gourley to a five-year term on the Library board and Clare Dobler to a six-year term on the Everett Civil Service Commission.
The Everett Junior All-Star bowling team departed by automobile today for Los Angeles and clashes with Southern California’s best. Members were captain Eddie Hansen, average 178; Floyd Persson, 177; Dick Patrick, 181; Dick Sass, 185; and Steve Sanderson, 179.
25 years ago (1982)
Elgar Houghton, who lived in Everett with his wife Ruth, was a dead-ringer for William Faulkner. However, unlike Faulkner, who wrote about his native Mississippi, Houghton wrote about his native Everett. Last year he published “The Intruders” about the Everett Massacre. This year his book “Chalk Man” was released.
Snohomish County Christian School named it students of the month for November. Representing the high school were sophomore Marilyn Buhr and junior Ced Hutchinson. Buhr’s favorite subject was math. Hutchinson said he enjoyed all classes to the fullest.
