Gene Stahl of Marysville, a salesman for Goldberg Furniture, happily accepted the keys to a brand new Plymouth from Ross Winde of Everett Auto Company as his prize in a Beautyrest sales contest sponsored by Simmon’s Mattresses.
Ka-Ya-Ne-Ya Camp Fire group enjoyed a party in the home of its leader, Violet Sunde. Officers recently chosen were Christy Paris, president; Aleta Sunde, vice president; Karlene Tillson, secretary; Andrea Sheriff, treasurer; Candy Murdock, scribe, and Jewel Chapman, requirement chair.
25 years ago (1982)
A new national newspaper, USA Today, was being introduced in the Everett-Seattle market tomorrow three months ahead of its debut nationwide. The paper employed the latest techniques in packaging and technology. There was some question about whether it could be sold on Everett’s public sidewalks.
The new computer-coordinated traffic signals on Lynnwood’s busiest streets seemed to confuse some motorists, who got red lights when they expected green lights. City officials and consulting experts were testing the $1.1 million traffic control system said the some drivers were running red lights. The “interconnect” system was designed to reduce traffic delays by 15 percent at 23 intersections on 196th and 44th streets and Highway 99.
