50 years ago (1957)
A resident of the area for 67 years, Nels (Rosie) Weborg died at his Lake Stevens home after an extended illness. Among the prominent positions he had held were secretary and manager of the Port of Everett and president of Everett Rotary Club. He was also a life member of the Everett Elks Lodge and a member of the Everett Yacht Club.
Robin Thrall, formerly of San Francisco, joined the staff of Parkland Lutheran Children’s Home as a caseworker, it was announced by E. Don Moe, executive director of the home. The appointment of Thrall was made to give the greatest possible service to the children at the home.
25 years ago (1982)
A story to chew on appeared in the Everett Kiwanis Club’s weekly bulletin. The gumball machines around town carrying the club emblem had raised some $40,000 during the 40 years the club had engaged in the fundraising program. The pennies added up to quite a mouthful for community service.
A mallard duck at Silver Lake was muzzled, due to a careless element of civilization. Several loops of plastic six-pack beverage holder were wrapped around his neck and beak. Jackie Hughes and Kaye Bailey would try to help the bird.
