50 years ago (1957)
Dr. Charles B. Mincks was to speak at the View Ridge Preschool PTA meeting in the school. His topic, “Shall I Call the Doctor?” covered symptoms to be alarmed about and not to be alarmed about, communicable diseases and what to do before the doctor arrived at your doorstep.
Winners at the Wednesday Everett Bridge League session were Fred Fintz and Evelyn Chase, first; Maud Call and Lis Masi tied with Betty LeGros and Esther Tillinghast, second and third. The league was planning a Halloween party at the Elks Home, where there would be a masterpoint event and refreshments.
25 years ago (1982)
The Snohomish County Council accepted the resignation of auditor Hand Whalen, who announced his retirement after many years of service. Whalen recommended his chief deputy, Dean Williams, be named to replace him. Williams had been Whalen’s assistant since Whalen became auditor in 1974. The auditor’s office was a key target for plans to consolidate financial operations under a single department.
The Mukilteo City Council appointed Tom Howerton to the city planning commission to fill the unexpired term of Bob ÂMcBride, who resigned. Howerton was a salesman for Associated Sand &Gravel Co. in Everett and co-chairman of the streets and utilities committee.
