50 years ago (1957)
Pay ‘n Save Drug Store at 2711-15 Colby Ave. would be “blacked out” Monday for its first business day off in nearly 10 years. The closure would precede brighter things as the store reopened, remodeled and expanded. The new exterior sign was reputed to be the brightest of its type and the brightest sign ever erected on a single building in the Northwest. Paul Ross was the store manager.
Sumner Iron Works was fabricating what would be the largest hydraulic debarking machine in the world. It would be installed at the Pacific Lumber Mill in Scotia, Calif., to remove the thick bark from redwood logs.
25 years ago (1982)
There were several reasons to visit King Size Photo with photo-finishing needs. Prints were ready in day or they were free, satisfaction guaranteed. Employees were experienced and there were five convenient locations in Everett, two in Lynnwood, two in Marysville as well as shops in Edmonds, Alderwood, Stanwood, Mountlake Terrace, Arlington, SnohoÂmish and Lake Stevens.
Leonard Moore of Everett, a junior at Berklee College of Music in Boston, was to direct a concert of contemporary big band jazz compositions at the college. Some had been written and arranged by Moore.
