50 years ago (1957)
First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Everett purchased the southwest corner of Colby and Everett avenues as a building site, it was announced by Thomas Gish, chairman of the association’s board. The property was often referred to as Caldbick corner after the late Dr. S. P. and Mrs. Caldbick, who had owned it.
Using straight power plays to bowl over an out-charged Bellarmine line, the Everett High Seagulls thumped the Lions in Tacoma, 13-0. Coach Jim Ennis, quarterback Dennis Borreson and other players suffering from the influenza missed the game. Assistants Bill Dunn and Dick Abrams coached the game. Bob Gaines played quarterback.
25 years ago (1982)
Area Marines headed for Pacific duty included Cpl. Wade Farley of Edmonds and Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Hill of Granite Falls to Okinawa, and Lance Cpl. Kevin Mason of Edmonds to the Philippines.
A Sultan High School team of Pat Koenig, Christian Groth, Robyn Fry and Barbara Ochs, placed second in a five-county “Knowledge Bowl” quiz competition. Sultan’s team was coached by Jo Ann Douglas.
