50 years ago (1957)
Everett Barracks 132, Veterans of World War I, met in regular session in the VFW Hall across the street from the Armory. The highlight of the meeting was the installation of Herf Looyson as department senior vice commander. A potluck dinner was served by the Ladies Auxiliary preceding the meeting.
Everett Junior College’s Trojans beat the clock by 47 seconds and the Olympic Rangers by five points here at Memorial Stadium. When Chuck Markulis crossed the goal line on a right side run from eight yards out to put IJC in front by 12 to 7 the Trojans pulled into a first place JC Football Conference tie with Olympic and Wenatchee.
25 years ago (1982)
Barbara Hanson and Douglas Alton would share the $100 prize for correctly picking 19 of the 20 games on The Herald’s Football Forecaster ballot for the week of Oct. 22. Hanson, a Bothell resident, was the first female winner of the season. Alton was from Marysville.
The Eldec Co. in Lynnwood purchased 40 acres in Snohomish County and planned to move one of its divisions there. The land was at the interchange between I-405 and the Bothell-Everett Highway.
