50 years ago (1957)
Gradual phasing out of Boeing operations in Everett would start shortly after the first of the year. Such action was in accordance with original plans, but timing was advanced in order to achieve cost reductions necessitated by the financial problems facing the Air Force in connection with the 1958 federal budget.
Once again women of First Presbyterian Church were making plans for their annual bazaar that would include a home-cooked dinner. The three general chairs were Mary June Beck, Ruth Kiltz and Miriam Forman. Also heavily involved was Grace Kohler, Matrons Guild president.
25 years ago (1982)
A reception honoring Sid and Jeannie Cotterill on their 35th wedding anniversary would be held Sunday at the home of their daughter and her husband, Paul and Cherie Anderson.
A new chief, a man who said he’d insist on professionalism and good community relations, had taken over Stanwood’s police department. Bob Kane, formerly a sergeant in the Scottsdale, Ariz., Police Department, started his new job this month. He succeeded Carl Wade, who retired from an 18-year Stanwood police career. Kane said he moved here because he liked Western Washington, had relatives in the area and thought it would be a good place to raise his baby daughter.
