50 years ago (1957)
Gary Baunsgard, 12, of Lake Stevens, and his blue-and-white racer flashed across the finish line to win this year’s Soap Box Derby. He was the first Class B racer to win the county championship and was now off to Akron, Ohio, to compete in the All-American Derby.
Members of Cathcart Community Club were gathering at Wonderland Park of Flowing Lake for the annual club potluck picnic. The day’s activities would begin about 11 a.m., according to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Puckett, who were chairing the affair.
25 years ago (1982)
Snohomish County was holding its first-ever Good News Rally in the courtyard between the county courthouse and the administration building. The brown bag lunch was an attempt to counter some of the bad news on unemployment and high interest rates with testimonials from those recently having good things happen to them.
Taco Bell was celebrating its grand opening in Lynnwood on Highway 99. Performing at the event was Soundsation, the vocal jazz-rhythm section compliments of Edmonds Community College.
