50 years ago (1957)
Ladies Day play at Everett Municipal Golf Course was on points. Ruth Kalstad won in first division competition with 46. Rita Barnwell was second with 44 and Lillian Steffy took third place with 42. Vi Welty’s 47 was tops in the second division. Jean Henry took second with 45.
Dale Friend, former Everett High School Seagull and Everett Junior College hurler, would take the mound for the Everett Bluejays against Sandpoint, Idaho, in the Pacific Northwest Semi-Pro Baseball Tournament at Ferris Field in Spokane.
25 years ago (1982)
George Wickman showed his brother-in-law, Howard Shives of Phoenix, how Washingtonians went about the sport of salmon fishing. The major part of their catch was pulling up a rod and reel that another fisherman apparently had lost overboard. It was worth about $100, according to Wickman.
At the Evergreen State Fair, Joe Coffman was thrilled when he started up the diesel tractor his Monroe High School FFA students had rebuilt. It ran just like new. Just as enthusiastic was Cascade High School vocational agriculture teacher Mike Van Winkle as he showed off the FFA horticulture exhibit.
