50 years ago (1957)
The Woolworth’s store at Hewitt and Colby avenues, which had been remodeling for the past several months, was holding a grand re-opening sale. Store manager F.A. Kraus said the store had been enlarged by 4,000 square feet. The lunch counter was twice as big. A garden shop and pet department had been added. The store would operate on a convenient self-service basis.
The new Thom McAn shoe store at 2808 Colby Ave. was also holding a grand opening. Dale Middleton was the store manager.
25 years ago (1982)
Casino Professional Center, a new office park at 14 E. Casino Road, was now leasing space. It already welcomed Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound for selecting the center for a new primary care facility in December.
The Oh Yuk Snake Race was a new event at the Stanwood-Camano Fair. “Winner,” the smallest entrant, slithered its way to the winner’s spot while others slept, made knots or turned around. “Winner” belonged to Steve Stedman, 14, from Warm Beach.
