50 years ago (1964)
The coffee can birdhouses instructor Merrilee Mitchell and youngsters were making in the arts and crafts sessions of Everett’s School-Park summer play program were strictly for the birds, but the work that went into them was for the enjoyment and development of the children. Among those working with Mitchell were Lisa Agostinelli and Benny Rediger at Monroe School, one of seven schools and playfields where the class convened on a rotating schedule.
Kenneth W. Smith, resident camp chairman of the Camp Fire Girls, happily accepted a check from Everett Fireman Jay Weewie for the Camp Fire Girls Campship Fund as Shirley Fleischer, executive Camp Fire Director, looked on. The money was part of the proceeds from the annual Firemen’s Ball.
25 years ago (1989)
Marine Pfc. John E. Buonto, of Lynnwood, was promoted to his present rank while serving with the 3rd Force Service Group in Okinawa, Japan.
Michael Benson, of Lynnwood, was selected to attend a summer seminar program at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He was a senior at Meadowdale High School.
