50 years ago (1957)
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth T. Dawson bought the Book and Record Shop, 2625 Colby Ave. Mrs. Dawson was well known in the community in connection with Swarm Hardware. The Book and Record Shop, the only one of its kind in the county, was started 10 years earlier by W.S. Jenks as the University Book Store.
Harry Ecklund, ninth-grader at South Junior High School, was enjoying the new coronet he received as winner of a contest held by Welk Music Store during its recent grand opening. Roland Welk of the firm and Jack Potter of the Everett School District Music Department were on hand to enjoy his playing of the instrument.
25 years ago (1982)
Members of the Port Gardner Neighborhood Association were working on cleaning up and planting Douglas fir trees in the gully west of Providence Hospital (now called Forgotten Creek). Steve Burr was chairman of the association and Paul O’Neil was chairman of the committee working on the gully.
Liz Greene was directing “Mame” at Lynnwood High School and Dave Earp was the music director. Cast members included Andrea Torrey, Andrew Taskos, Wendy Larsen, Nancy Malness, Brett Williams, John Haffner and Troy Enlow.
