Jim Price, finance chairman of the annual Fourth of July celebration, pointed out that the fete was a community affair designed for all families in and around Everett. Contributions could be sent to the Fourth of July Committee, American Legion, 2818 Wetmore Ave.
Sigurd Thorlakson, a graduating senior at Everett High School, was selected to receive the Savings and Loan Association Scholarship to attend Everett Junior College. Principal Bert Vanderwilt awarded the scholarship. The principal, faculty and advisers at the school made the selection.
25 years ago (1982)
Keeler’s Korner, a landmark on Highway 99’s “Gunny Sack Hill” in Lynnwood, was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The venerable green-and-white wooden frame building with red pumps had been a landmark along the highway for the past 55 years.
An intense fire that apparently got a good head start destroyed the Country Gentleman restaurant on Lake Stickney early this morning. The fire was so hot it destroyed shrubbery out front. Black smoke was visible for a mile or more. Fire District 1 Fire Marshal Tom Foster said the blaze began in the core of the building.
