50 years ago (1964)
Purchase of the Monte Cristo by a corporation of Everett eight businessmen was announced today. Bryant, Butterfield and Frets, Everett architects, were selected for modernization plans that might include a rooftop dining facility.
Dennis Pemberton collected four for four at the plate to lead the Everett Legion team past Sedro-Woolley, 15-0 in Legion play. John Hayes added to the cause with a three for four performance. Bill Baxter and Jeff Solomon had perfect nights at the plate, three for three and two for two respectively.
25 years ago (1989)
Dave Davis, city traffic engineer, said that a six-month test with speed humps on Grand Avenue and Olympic Drive slowed 85 percent of the drivers by 3 to 6 mph. Residents on both streets wanted to retain the humps and it was likely that driving in the city would become slower and bumpier.
John Henken Chevrolet Geo &Motorhomes at 315 West Avenue in low overhead Arlington advertised leasing as a smart choice. They also advertised Chev Lumina Euros, Trackers, Chev S-10 El Pus, Prizms and an ‘88 Pontiac Sunbird convertible.
