50 years ago (1957)
Officials of Everett Housing Authority and Washington Natural Gas Co. completed contracts that would convert all 400 units of the housing authority to gas heat this fall. Lester Beard, executive director, signed the agreement while joined by Stan Winter, Everett manager of the gas company, and Larry Jones, chairman of the housing authority.
Alumnae of Everett General Hospital School of Nursing were to present the annual spring dance honoring graduating seniors at the Elks Home. Working on mobiles in the class colors of violet and yellow were Gloria Frewaldt, Barbara Holyoke and Irma Weberling.
25 years ago (1982)
Bret Summers, 22-year-old stocky junior welterweight, had won several amateur boxing tournaments. He was now going professional. His father, Troy Summers, had been his boxing coach since he began the sport 14 years ago.
The Monte Cristo Ranger District east of Granite Falls was to be absorbed by the Darrington District, according to officials of the U.S. Forest Service. The headquarters of the newly enlarged district would be at the Darrington Ranger Station under the leadership of Claude McLean. The Monte Cristo building would be open for information services. Ranger Jack Davis was being transferred to Seattle.
