50 years ago (1947)
George T. Melton, Everett Junior College economics instructor, was awarded a $300 prize for his master’s thesis on “The State Grange and the Development of Water Power Resources in Washington.” The award was made by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
A.W. “Bill” Carlson was not only the newest member of Everett’s Port Commission but its vice president as well. Carlson, a longtime insurance representative, was seated on the board to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Victor Johnson.
25 years ago (1982)
Dr. Nancy Ann Lellelid, a new physician at the Everett Clinic and a Mukilteo resident, was selected for the 1981 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America, a publication honoring young women who had distinguished themselves in their homes, professions and communities. She was among 23,000 selected for the honor.
Everett cellist Ron Shawger, a student at New York’s prestigious Julliard School, was to play a recital in Carnegie Recital Hall. He earned that honor by being one of 14 winners in the International Artists Competition in New York.
