Work started this week on the new Farmers Road elementary school at the intersection of Casino Road and Highway 99. The 18-room school was designed by architect Harry Botesch and associate architect F. Edward Brown. Newland Construction was general contractor.
Tom Tiede, son of Mr. and Mrs. Les A. Tiede, 5811 Highway Place, was tapped for membership in Sigma Delta Chi, professional journalism fraternity at Washington State College. He was a sophomore there majoring in journalism.
Mukilteo Presbyterian Church member Lorna Hall, a “miniaturist,” had created a replica of the 1907 building that included pews, Bibles, pulpit and pump organ. It took her four years to build it. She planned to offer it to the Mukilteo Historical Society for permanent display.
Arlington High School Principal John Coxon announced his retirement in a letter to Superintendent Richard Post. Coxon had been in education for 30 years – 14 at Arlington High. He said the future in education looked exciting especially in the area of computer programming.
