50 years ago (1957)
Nursing Home Day was to be observed tomorrow by all local members of the Snohomish County Nursing Home Association. A proclamation was read by Mayor George Culmback. William Carroll of Snohomish was president of the county association and Lillian Abrahamson of Everett was vice president.
The $250,000 campus of the St. Pius X Catholic Parish of Mountlake Terrace awaited dedication tomorrow. Archbishop Thomas Connolly was to lay the cornerstone during the ceremonies. The buildings included the church, a school, a parish hall and a convent.
25 years ago (1982)
Lloyd and Rosalie Caster were getting a new energy- efficient two-story home with a basement built by 26 juniors and seniors in the Everett School District’s vocational carpentry program. Dick Lutz coordinated the program. Jim Drake was the instructor. Some of the young carpenters were Paul McDaniels, Mark Heinsen, Brian Anderson, John Murock and Marvin Phelps.
Everett High School duffers split two golf matches last week. The Gulls were 3-1 in league matches and 5-1 overall. Kirk Estie won medalist honors with 75 and Kevin McCourt shot a season-low round of 79, carding one eagle.
