Lawrence Whitfield was elected by the Monroe Town Council to fill a vacancy on the council created by the recent death of Frank Doolittle. Whitfield would be sworn in at the next regular session of the council.
John D. “Jack” Blackwell was named director of facilities at Everett Community College. Most recently facilities manager of Montgomery College in Rockville, Md., he also was director and administrative services for the Economic Regulatory Administration of the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. Blackwell and his wife, Grace, had four children. He would begin his duties here in June.
