On Whidbey Island, men were letting their whiskers grow to help call attention to the Round the Island outboard race on July 7. Among those having a good crop of facial foliage were Bill Harm, Jack Daniels, Jack Wardell, Bill Mills, Joe Seeright and Bud McCall.
25 years ago (1982)
Paul Pritchard’s sixth-graders at North Middle School got a real history lesson. The 27 students built a model of Everett’s Monte Cristo Hotel. Through their research they interviewed Robert Humphrey, Jack Bennett, Alice Koster, Bertha Neisinger, George Bunnywell, Miriam Bunnywell, Winnie Martinis and Warren Preboski. Adults who assisted with the project were Jeanette Anderson, Bill Belshaw, Dennis Day, David Dilgard, Falken Kalin, Peggy Lingenfelter, Kay Lyons, Margaret Riddle, Loren Sand, Linda Shockey, Reid Shockey and Mary Beth Van Dalen.
In Sultan, a lowboy truck that may have scraped bottom going over a railroad crossing was being investigated as a factor in the derailment Tuesday of a 12-car work train.
