50 years ago (1957)
Four new traffic control signals were approved this morning by Everett city commissioners. The new installations would be on Wetmore Avenue at Pacific Avenue and at Wall Street, at Rucker Avenue and California Street, and at 47th Street and Evergreen Way. There was also talk of one on Evergreen Way at 52nd Street.
Les Cooper, an expert on Mount Pilchuck and other peaks of Snohomish County, was promoting the proposed ski area on Mount Pilchuck. He said that the snow was perfect in the area, often having as much as 10 feet as late as June. He also said it was more like Stevens Pass than Snoqualmie Pass.
25 years ago (1982)
Snow fell and spread a white veneer over the Everett area and brought misery for drivers and joy to young people with toboggans and sleds. James Reedy of the Washington State Patrol’s Everett office said the roads were a mess and people were just not prepared for snow.
Although the Everett economy was sagging, it was helping to save taxpayers millions of dollars on several major projects. Money was saved on low bids for the city of Everett’s water filtration plant at Lake Chaplain, according to project manager Jerry Carroll.
