Deposits in Everett Trust and Savings Bank increased by more than a million dollars during the past year, E.G. Startup, president, reported at the annual stockholders meeting. The session was highlighted by the election of Dan Duryee to the board of directors.
After 20 years of operation of Stowell Lumber, Harry Stowell announced his retirement. He planned to retain his interests in the local firm but turned over the management to Dale Lawrence. Lawrence and his wife were moving to Everett from Portland, Ore.

Everett’s E.A. Nord &Co. brought another 40 laid-off employees back to work to help fill a surge in orders for doors, according to personnel manager Phil Knudsen. The company in December brought 85 other laid-off employees back to work when it began producing screen doors as part of a special promotion.
It was a season for winners. Rodney and Patsy Hayes of Camano Island won a two-week trip to China in a contest sponsored by the Everett Elks Lodge. Steve and Debbie Walsten of Lynnwood won a new Mazda RX-7 sports car in a contest sponsored by Playboy magazine.
