50 years ago (1956)
Taking honors as the first school to reach its 100 percent quota in the United Good Neighbors drive this year was View Ridge School, which went over the top last week. Chairing the campaign in the school was Gladys Kincaid.
Rapid progress was being shown on the new highway, State 15-B, between Monroe and Duvall. Sharp curves and narrow segments were being eliminated to make a new and direct route south from Monroe into east King County. Much of the highway was being relocated.
25 years ago (1981)
Saturday night’s Fiddle Festival in Marysville was more than a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. It was also a night dedicated to the late George Jacobs, an Everett resident who played with members of the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association. Ben Randall was chairing the show.
A house in the new south Everett subdivision The Point had it all – a view of the mountains, two levels of decking, Jacuzzi baths, built-in stereo, intercom and even a burglar alarm. It had everything except a furnace. The unusual home was commissioned by Energy Dynamics International and operated off solar power. It was on the market for $269,000.
