50 years ago (1956)
The Florence Mae Guild of the First Baptist Church met at Waldheim. Dorothy Deisher presided, Margaret Brennis read the devotions, and Eleanor Nazarenus was the guest speaker. Leona Bacon gave the benediction, and Patricia Ann Thorlakson entertained on the accordion. Margaret Brill was in charge of decorations.
A sharp eye for spotting top-grade farm animals might help earn a college education for Robert Ottaway, 16, of Granite Falls, who would represent Washington in the $20,000 livestock judging contest sponsored by Charles Pfizer and Co. Ottaway was going to Kansas City, Mo., for the contest.
25 years ago (1981)
Snohomish County and the Love Israel Family agreed on how the group could comply with building and zoning codes on its 290-acre farm near Arlington. The agreement came after more than two years of negotiations between the parties.
Senior Kelly Warren of Everett was an inspiration to her teammates at the University of Idaho in Moscow. A runner, she regularly participated in the annual Snohomish-to-Duvall 30-kilometer road race. She was majoring in elementary education with a coaching minor.
