50 years ago (1964)
Having completed basic training at Fort Ord, Calif., Pvt. Gil Soley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Soley, 2124 Wetmore Ave., was assigned by the Army to Fort Monmouth, N.J. for a 29-week course in operating electronic computers.
Liz Yeoman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Yeoman of Everett, accepted a scholarship from Margaret Avery of the Lowell Guild of Everett General Hospital Auxiliary. The Everett High grad would enter Everett General Hospital in the fall.
25 years ago (1989)
One week after sinking in the Snohomish River, the 45-ton classic yacht Moby Dick was hoisted to a drier home near the 13th St. salvage yard in the Everett Marina. Bill Meyers, a member of the tugboat crew, placed a wooden brace underneath the craft for stability. Owner T.A. Boullion said it was the worst condition of any boat he’d ever seen, but it was still a classic.
Nagy Manufacturing Co., 307 Main St., Sultan offered a spring coupon sale on Cabin Crafts Carpets. You could carpet you living room, dining room and hall for only $489. This included deluxe pad, expert installation and a choice of 28 designer colors.
