50 years ago (1956)
With the transfer of Alan Smith to Snoqualmie Falls to succeed E.H. O’Neil as manager there and the appointment of Howard Hunt as his successor as general plant superintendent of mills B and C here, other personnel promotions were announced by Weyerhaeuser Timber Co.: Donald Wilson was named production superintendent in Everett, W.E. O’Neil succeeded him as sales manager, and Douglas Kilner moved from the shipping department to O’Neil’s post as second-shift superintendent.
Clothier Hart Schaffner &Marx saluted Costello’s first 50 years of service to Everett’s well-dressed man. The store had its name in yellow neon script along both Hewitt and Wetmore avenues.
25 years ago (1981)
Headed to Washington, D.C., were Allan and Eleanor May. Allan, a Herald reporter, was an alternate delegate to the national convention of the Society of Professional Journalists. He was vice president of the group’s Western Washington chapter.
Several missionaries were inside the Washington State Reformatory at Monroe this weekend. Among them were Elmer and Loretta Root from their retirement home at Warm Beach. Leading the way among the volunteers was Watergate figure Chuck Colson. Their goal was to drive hardened convicts to Christian living.
