50 years ago (1956)
As another step in its program to provide visual aid to those needing it, Central Lady Lions Club last week presented a projector-magnifier to the Special Education Center at Garfield School. John Barton tried out the new device with the aid of instructor Anna Cowles. Norman Kincaid, superintendent of the Center, looked on.
Forward Randy Vekik and guard Joe Ross were the co-captains of the Everett High School 1956-57 basketball team. Coach Norm Lowery announced the result of the election to the squad.
When Jerry and Cliff Evans’ six children got to be school age, the Snohomish couple was worried about having an empty house. Jerry said she got greedy and had to have more kids. They decided then to become foster parents.
Eric Kicks’ lay-in with 14 seconds remaining proved decisive as the Cascade Bruins remained unbeaten with a 62-60 triumph over Bellevue in non-league play. Center Mike Ollon assisted Kick for the last basket. A Bellevue shot attempt was missed. The Bruins wound up hitting 65 percent (28 of 43) from the floor.
