50 years ago (1956)
Birthdays were celebrated at the meeting of Our Golden Hour. Preceding the party a quartet from South Junior High School sang several selections. The group included Judy Martin, Nickie Payton, Jackie Spichiger and Doreen Kennedy. David Whittaker also sang several numbers.
Senior class of Twin City High School was presenting the play “Gramercy Ghost” at the school auditorium. Players were Gene Wakefield, Alvin Danielson, Arnet Hagan and Ruth Neilson.
25 years ago (1981)
A $1.1 million contract was awarded for a computerized traffic signal system to lessen stop-and-go driving on major roads in the Lynnwood-Edmonds area, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Existing signals at 21 intersections and two new signals would be connected to a computer, said Loren Sand of the Lynnwood public works department. The signals were on Highway 99, 196th Street and at I-5 ramps.
