50 years ago (1956)
Eric Dahl and Ardyth Myres were among the many children anticipating the annual theater Party of the A.H.B. Jordan Orthopedic Guild at the Civic Auditorium. Mary Verhey was president of the guild and Lucy graves was chairwoman for the event.
Everett Civic Symphonette’s fall concert would feature the talents of a school teacher in the Lakewood district. Dorothy Power, first bassoonist with the orchestra, would be heard as soloist of the afternoon in Mozart’s Concerto for Bassoon. Power, who had playing for the symphonette for several seasons, directed the 42-piece Lakewood grade school band.
25 years ago (1981)
It was business as usual at Cut &Curl Beauty Salon, even after a 1956 Cadillac plunged through the store’s glass front doors. Stylist Rae Bennett, who was tending customer Jamie Lilley at the time, said that was like slow motion and sounded like a bomb.
Eleanor Leight, formerly a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall in New York, was now keeping the aura of the show by teaching others the famous routines. Leight no longer performed in public but loved to dance and teach. Her students came every Monday night, rain, snow or fog.
