50 years ago (1956)
Given a helping hand by Santa Claus himself, Mark Walters was reunited with his mother, Marilyn Walters, after being slightly lost in the crowd that greeted Santa’s arrival this morning. Hundreds of youngsters gathered at Hewitt and Colby avenues to meet Santa, who arrived in the fog atop the Miller Department Store (Colby) building.
Shooting for a January completion date, work was pushing forward on the new Olivia Park Elementary School of the Mukilteo School District. Farther south, Edmonds Superintendent Harold Silvernail conferred with contractors at Holmes Corner, where a new high school would be built.
25 years ago (1981)
Everett Family Practice Center P.S. at 4225 Hoyt Ave. was pleased to announce the association of Dr. F.J. Kimball. Kimball practiced family medicine and obstetrics.
Nobody missed the foul stench of the old city dump at the foot of 36th Street, but Everett residents weren’t proud of what had replaced it, either. Mt. Firestone, a collection of somewhere between 2 million and 9 million used tires, had been growing on the site since 1975. The problem was getting worse as more tires were arriving than were being sold for other uses.
