50 years ago (1956)
The public was invited to attend the open house on July 12 of the new Travelodge at 3030 Broadway. Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Tilton and their daughter Nancy were co-owners-managers. Warners Building Supplies, Modern Roofing, Associated, Sagar Construction, Mac’s Electric and Belcher Floor and Tile all worked on the motel’s construction.
Pat Reilly, 2501 Rucker Ave., last year’s Class B champion watched carefully as officials of the Toledo Scale Co. weighed him and his racer. Another hopeful derbyist, Tom Baxter of Edmonds, had his car checked in by Jack Myers, chairman of the derby.
25 years ago (1981)
LeRoy Carter, owner of Carter’s Drug Store for the past 33 years, was awarded the Washington State Pharmaceutical Association’s “Bowl of Hygea” award for community service. He had been active in Lions, United Way, Boys Scouts and Camp Fire Girls.
Tara Rommerdahl of Everett was elected Secretary of State at the 1981 Evergreen Girls’ State Conference on the Central Washington University campus in Ellensburg. More than 450 women represented their home community at the annual event sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.
