50 years ago (1956)
Leon Mullen was the newly-elected president of the Everett Chamber of Commerce, succeeding E.G. Startup. Other officers were Gerald Kravik; vice president; Dick Ray, second vice president, and Lloyd Wallgren, renamed treasurer. Don Gillette was chairman of the nominating committee.
The Keep Washington Green highway sign painter was now working the northwest part of the state. Each year an International Harvester Metro truck traveled more than 10,000 miles in the state stenciling messages on the roads such as “Use Your Ashtray.”
25 years ago (1981)
It was called the Friendly Tavern at 122 State Ave. in Marysville, but the controversy over a new liquor license was anything but friendly. The fact there had been 17 calls for the police from January to June also indicated the name might be a misnomer. Some complained that being in an old gas station made it unattractive.
Anderson Business Machines had moved to the Walsh Platt Auto Rentals Building at 1408 Hewitt Ave. The company sold, serviced and rented business machines. Also, Welder Supply Co. had moved from Rucker Avenue to the former Westinghouse warehouse at 3011 Broadway. Lease arrangements were coordinated by Jack Shannon of D.A. Duryee.
