A four-alarm, four-hour fire swept through the William Hulbert Mill Co. plant on Norton Avenue, causing an estimated $500,000 damage. The blaze destroyed the planer mill, a storage building and eight dry kilns, all of which were loaded with lumber. The adjoining Jamison Lumber Co. office also went up in flames.
Four new skylights were installed on the roof of Peoples National Bank Building, 2927 Colby Ave. The roof dated to 1920 and was in need of repairs. Working with Commercial Sheet Metal Co. on the project were the H.O. Seiffert Co. and Everett contractor Don Walser.
In a glittering display of pomp and celebration, Boeing rolled out its first 767 twinjet at its Everett plant. The airplane was the first of several models of fuel-efficient airliners that Boeing would sell to an airline industry beset with skyrocketing fuel costs and slumping ridership.
